SNOW, SNOW AND MORE SNOW!!

We have had a week of off and on snow. Yesterday we had a big storm and we got more tonight. I have shoveled the driveway 4 or 5 times and I wish it had a heater in it to melt the snow. I think we will have a white Christmas. I guess Las Vegas got some of the storm and snow that we got tonight.

Actually I was asked to bring a Christmas program. Three weeks ago Roshell's family and I went to Hurricane to see Dale. I talked him into coming out into the main room to listen to Kyler and Shelsey play the piano. As we were getting set up the "Social Director" from the center came in and asked us if we would come and do a Christmas program. I thought it would be a good chance to get Dale out of his room again so we set it up and invited Dale's family to join us. Tonia and her family were the only ones able to come.It is always nice to have things work. We all enjoyed doing it and I think that Dale was happy to have us come.

It was very nice. Thank you Lucile and ALL for making it happen. We go and see him now and then but it is nice to have others with us, espeically FAMILY!!!! You all are very wonderful and great. Thanks again and Merry Christmas. My son kept saying today that he really had a great time at Grandpa Dale's. Blessings are everywhere, big and small, we just need to look for them.

For those who didn't notice I or Abe added a link to Crazy Jane's blog. She just started one and it is fun like all of them.  I really enjoy reading them. I am not a writer so it is great that we have some that can and will for the rest of us.  Keep up the writing and sharing.

Hi from Burbank Califonia. Jon and I were able to leave Mom and Kya in charge of everything so he could come down to bank meetings. The trip has been fun so far. Thanks to the gps system that we have it was way easy to find where we were staying. We are just going to be driving around this morning and then his meetings are this afternoon and then in the morning till about 2 then we start heading home. Not to long to be away but it is fun to have some time to just hang out. Thanks again to Mom and Kya or we could not have been able to get away. Hope everyone is doing well.

Fun Painting

I have bought lots of wood to paint but don't remember finishing many. So when the Relief Society were doing it I decided it would be fun and it was. Here is what it turned out like.

After Christmas in Seattle

I am booked for a trip to Seattle.  I will leave as you can see from the schedule Tues. Dec. 30 at 5:50 and get to Seattle by 9:44. The only problem is if my plane from Seattle is very late I may miss my plane to Cedar coming home on Sat. CRIB TIME FUN

This is such a cute picture that I just have to post it.  Gwen has really been turning into a two year old even though she won't be officially until December.  That includes the good and the bad.  This picture is of her new favorite game.  She makes mommy throw all the stuffed animals into the crib and then hides in them.  I guess having a lot of stuffed animals has finally paid off.  We are excited to see everyone this coming week.  And I'm sure Abe is delighted to get us out of the house so he can stop worrying. ELECTION DAY

That was the longest day ever. Most of us were new or didn't remember what to do. Setting up the machines took longer than it was suppose to (1 hr was not enough). Luckliy we had helpers who saved us. The morning was a rush after noon it seemed to go slower we had over 900 people come through the lines. 15 or so hr later I was home. Have a nice day.

Friday Night Smackdown

October 14th we headed to las Vegas at the Thomas and mac center to see some wrestling superstars in action, we had in my opinion better seats than at the WWE Raw event, you could see the ring alot better except for the kid in front of me with the hot pink sigh that said i love grandma. as the event went on i noticed we were a little high up to be seen on T.V. like on raw, but the divas had a match in wich the had to retrive a set of fuzzy dice high on a pole the cameras moved up to catch the action. in the video you can see us better than in the screen capture but it was a blast and even sally got into it cheering for the UNDERTAKER woo hoo!!!!! and we even got a second bout that was not aired on t.v.

Gwen's Halloween

Abe sent this  today so thought I would post it. Katie made the dress for her to be Dorthy but couldn't find the red shoes in her size. Abe said she wouldn't give up the bink for the picture.

Green River

Today I made a trip to Green River to visit Lea and Joe.  I had a great time.  I picked up the CD's for the new book Brisinger to listen to on the way. I only got through 4 and 1/2 of the 23 discs. Guess I will have to go somewhere else or just read the book which I bought also.  

At Green River I got to the parade which was still going.  If you want candy that is the parade to go to. Then we went to their house to unload my car. The house is really nice except for a few problems which every house has.  Big living room and kitchen.  Then we went to the Park and Lea helped her Jr students open the Pop wagon.  Then we found lunch and walked around.  Lots of booths with lots of food and stuff.  You could taste the watermelons from the two different growers for free so you could have your fill of watermelon.  One was really better than the other just a little sweeter taste. I bought one on the way out of town to share. It was a good day.

I DID IT!

Today I ran my first 5K race. I did better than I thought I would do and it was a great experience. I had planned to go with one of my friends and we thought our husbands could bring the kids down to see us finish and then they could participate in the kids races. It turns out that she got a pinch in her neck! Our schedule filled up with gymnastics and birthday parties so Sam and the kids weren't able to come. I almost bailed out (and I was trying to decide if it was because I was getting scared or if it really had to do with the schedule) but I signed up anyway and I am so glad I did!

The race took place at Northwest Trek, which is a wilderness park with animals, etc... not far from Mt. Rainier. (About an hour drive South of where we live.) I left the house at 6:30am. I got to the registration area and was surprised by how many people were there. (Did I mention it was raining? Not the usual Washington mist, but real rain!) I received my bib number, t-shirt and counter chip, which you tie to your shoe. (I didn't know until this morning that the counters are used to calculate your time. In my mind I anticipated someone standing there with a stop watch!)

After I registered I saw an Occupational Therapist, Cara, that works in the same district as I, and she serves some of the preschool programs that I supervise. I went over to say Hi and I met her husband. This was their first race as well. I was glad to see someone that I knew, even though I only knew her through IEP meetings.

We got behind the starting line. The people doing the 8K were in the front, us 5Kers in the middle, and those doing the 5K walk in the very back. The horn blew and we were off. Well, for the first few steps it was more like a shuffle, but your time doesn't start until you cross the starting line. The serious runners were off! Cara and I seemed to keep the same running pace, which was great. We chatted a bit and I learned she has 4 kids, about the same ages as my own kids. We stayed together the whole race, not because either one of us felt obligated to, we just really were at the same level. We ran the first mile or so, then sped walked for a few minutes, then ran some more, then walked, etc...

My training was only done on a treadmill and I rarely pushed the incline button. I realized a few days ago that maybe I should have pushed it more because I had no idea what I was going to get into with this race, as I wasn't very familiar with the trail. (I had been to NW Trek once or twice before, but that was a long time ago!) There were a few hills, which actually didn't turn out to be all that bad. Going down the hills were a bit tricky as the road was wet. It ended up drizzling most of our run. It wasn't until the very end, as we crossed the finish line, that is started pouring again! (Thank heavens!)

Cara and I finished at the EXACT same moment. As we entered the last 100 yard area we ran as fast as we could. I don't know how we did it, but we both got the exact same time! It was great and I am so glad that I had someone to do the race with after all!

Not too bad for my first race. My goal was just to finish but I was not off from the average time and I didn't even finish last! :) I really want to run another race, now that I have a baseline. The Sound To Narrows race is in June but I don't know if I want to wait that long. I think it would be great if Sam wanted to do it with me next time....we will have to wait and see. :)

Hello from the Church's

Well hello to you all! I haven't written on this website for awhile. Well today is the first day of the Melon Day experience living in Green River! I think it will be a lot of fun! Today the will have mutton busting, barbeque and fire works! I think it will be alot of fun! Then tomorrow will be the Queen Pagent. Saturday parade and the park! So I will have to post more when I take pictures. Also Joe and I went to Salt Lake Tuesday night and Yesterday because I had a meeting. It was a lot of fun! We went to Temple Square, out to eat, and to the mall. I took a few pictures so I will probably post them later. Well hope all is well! I am missing you all! Take care! Love ya

Prayers

that I would love to have. Jane and Gwen have been in Cedar for a
couple of weeks while I am trying to get us back on our feet. It was a

I am a Survivor!!!

So I survived my first week of teacher 7-12th graders minus the 8th graders because I don't teach them til the next half of the year but you get the idea! Well to start off I just want you to know that teachers are definately under paid and over worked that is a very true statement it is a fact indeed not by any means a matter of opinion. But all the same I had a great week. It started off a little rocky but by the end I made it back on top or shall I say gradually working my way on an upward slope. It was a very tiring, emotional, stressful, overwhelming, and unorgazined week. But I stayed one step ahead of my kids and had them fooled a long the way so for the most part I think I did a pretty good job. It is a whole different story of teaching high school students vs. middle school. It seems that if the high school students don't care they don't even give you the satisfaction of pretending that they care. So it of course is tough to get them motivated. But they sure are cute even if they are little stinkers! I really do enjoy it granted there is the bad days with the good. That's one thing I have learned the truth of the words that there is oppostition in all things. There is the bad with the good in all things. It is crazy! But if I can survive the first week then hopefully I can survive the rest and it will just get a little easier from here on out. I am excited to get started I do feel that I have a direction now so I just have to go with that and get a lot more prepared and it will all work out! Also for those of you that don't know we found a house. It was the one I mentioned before but it is a big ole' house but we are just going to rent the top part for $400 it is rather exciting! When anyone comes on through you know where you can stay because it has three bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. I will try to post pictures. Love ya all Lea

Green River Here We Come!

So I guess Joe and I are moving to good ole' Green River and for those of you who don't know where that is it is located in the middle of no where about an hour from Price and and hour from Moab it is kind of in the middle of the two. My friend Emily's father-in-law is the principal at Green River High and it was starting to get to be crunch time for him. He had to find someone to fill the Family & Consumer Sciences position so low and behold I was the answer. He called me up this week and after Joe and I thought and prayed about it we felt right about it. It is so crazy that we are doing it, exciting but it makes me nervous at the same time! It is even crazier that I will be teaching. I mean I went to school to get this degree but I never thought that I would actually be using it! It will be a great experience it will be fun and quite the adventure! Joe has to finish two weeks here with his job then we will be ready to move for good. I will be staying over there with my friends parents for about two weeks they are so sweet and loving, I would consider them my other family! They are such good people and it will be really nice living in a town where I know people. It will help us to get familiar with the town and feel more welcome. I am really excited for the adventure! Project Time

Joe had to work overnight tonight so mom and I had some fun! I am spending the night at her house since I didn't want to be at home alone. I made this jewelry. It was a lot of fun and it is fun to have jewelry match your clothes. We were talking about how we need to take our outfits and make jewelry to match each one. I think it would be a lot of fun to do a jewelry business or make jewelry for gifts. We had lots of fun and I am sure there will be more fun to come! I am going to have to get my bead supply where moms is so I can make jewelry all the time. Or I could just use moms huge supply!! (and when I say huge I mean HUGE supply for those of you who haven't seen it you will have to.) Thanks to Sally we have started a new bead collecting, jewelry making frenzy! Thank you Sally (We love it)! Thank you to Roberts for having their beads on sale as well! Mom made some earrings that are really cute but sadly we didn't post them.

Meteors

I just read this in the paper so thought those that are traveling or want to get up early the 12th might  want to try to see some.

SALT LAKE CITY - A shower of meteors is expected the night of Aug. 11 and the morning of Aug. 12. "Throughout the night, fiery streaks of light will zoom across the sky as the annual Perseids Meteor Shower presents what is usually the most-watched meteor display of the year," reports NASA Solar System Ambassador to Utah, Patrick Wiggins.

Sick Day

Well we had an interesting morning today. Gwen woke up a lot earlier than usual and Jane was nice enough to take her for awhile. Turns out Gwen wasn't feeling well and ended up throwing up. I took over from there giving her a bath and holding her. After awhile I put her on the floor to lay down between some pillows because she was being very fussy. She calmed right down and I gave her a bink and she fell asleep. After awhile she got up ran around and ended up under her chair sleeping again. Until about 2:30 or so that was Gwen's day, up a little and back to sleep. She seems to be doing better and we hope she is getting over whatever got her. Jane also had a headache today and needed a break so we had all sorts of fun.

Melanie and Mom Sing

I just thought I'd let everyone know that Melanie and I are doing a musical number in Sacrament Meeting this Sunday the 27th. I know I told some people, but I know I've forgotten some people, too. Sorry about that - it has been a crazy couple of weeks with my family.

Our Sacrament Meeting starts at 11:00. Anyone is welcome to come, but if you can't we understand. I haven't said anything about me being nervous, because I need Melanie to feel I'm confident so she doesn't have as much worry. But...I'm nervous all the same!

Sorry! By the way, if you want to have some kind of pattern within your color (stripes, flowers, polka dots, etc.) that would be fine. I think we just wanted a general color for each family so we could differentiate in the big picture. No pun intended!

Picture Update

So far I know that Tonia & Jon's family has chosen black, and Sally & Dave's family has chosen green for the shirts for family pictures.  I haven't heard from anyone else.

I am leaning toward red for our family.  If anyone else wanted this color, please let me know before Tuesday.  The earlier we all have our colors picked, the earlier I can make sure my family all has the color we need.

I think we're still scheduled for Friday, August 15 for pictures.  I will check out the SUU Campus and see if there are other places we could do a photo that might not interfere with the Greenshow.  

Apparently, we need to find Jeanne a rainbow shirt so she can belong to everyone! ;)

The Zoo

We went to the zoo today.  It was fun and Gwen really liked all the animals. She also liked the ball, she was soaked.

Happy 35th Birthday Sam!

Today Sam turned 35 years old. (I called this his Baby Asprin Birthday because now that he is 35 he gets to take baby asprin every day!) We went camping with our ward this weekend to Zion's Camp (owned by the church) in Belfair, Washington. We had a great time. This is a picture of Sam making us a dutch oven dinner. (Our first one ever to make by ourselves!) It was WONDERFUL!

Coming to Utah

Well, after much thought, we decided we are going to come to Utah this summer. With the cost of gas, home projects, etc... we weren't sure if we would make it or not. We plan to leave Federal Way on Monday, August 11th in the afternoon (once Sam has wrapped up the Internet Academy Summer School) and drive to Boise. Then on Tuesday, August 12th we will continue the drive to Cedar City. We plan to be in Cedar City from the 13th-16th. (Bummer timing, I know, with school starting and all!) We plan to go to either Zion's or Bryce Canyon on one of the days. (Anyone is welcome to join us!) We would also like to go to the temple and do a session. We were thinking it would be great if we could all go and thought maybe the morning of the 16th (it's a Saturday) would be better for most people's schedules, than to do it on an evening during the first days of school. Do you think that would work out? Tonia, do you think one of your girls could tend for us? After the temple we will head up to Salt Lake. (Abe, we would like to see you and Jane either on our way down to Cedar City or on our way up to Salt Lake, if that works for you guys.) We plan to have dinner with my family on Saturday night and then leave early Sunday morning to drive back. I have to be back to work first thing Monday morning. (Bummer!) Anyway, that is the plan for right now anyway. We are excited to see all of you!

Here I am again!

With all the new post I felt it would be a good time for me to post again. Well this summer has been a good one very relaxing and it has been so nice thinking that I won't be going back to school in the fall. I can't believe I am really done the reality is slowly sinking in. So I have been just the laziest bum every but hey I am definately not complaining my husband might be but not me. So this lazy time is about to end though I can't believe the summer is almost over. Well the newest for Joe and I are that I finished Hunter Safety which made for a very long day. It is great to have it behind me though. I am very glad that I was able to take it. I learned a lot and now I can go shooting maybe not actual hunting yet but I still like the reasurrance that I have it behind me. It is nice to accomplish things and it was kind of fun learning again. It made me realize I miss the learning aspect of school. (Crazy I know!) Things are good though I have been working on projects: scrapbooking, a blanket, bracelets, and such. Joe has just been busy being a wonderful husband working hard. I do appreciate him so much for being such a great husband. I truly would be very lost and sad without him. He is so good to me and takes such good care of me. We are working on different scenarios as to what are next approach will be for life always better to have more than one plan because plans are always changing. California

We had a great time last week enjoying the warm California sun. Disneyland was fun. I really felt relaxed by staying at the Disneyland Hotel. We parked the car on Monday and didn't get back in it until Wednesday. The lines seemed to flow really well and everyone seemed to enjoy themselves. Jacob had and blast riding all the rollercoasters, Elijah had a chance to ride some as well and seem to have fun and seem scared to death at the same time, Zoe was dragged by mom to meet the princesses but seemed to enjoy that she just didn't like walking.
Everything seems to be going straight back to the way it was be for vacation. We have 3 weeks to inventory and a lot of caughting up to do. I don't think we will get bored. I also have been contacted about helping coach Elijah's soccer team. They wanted to have me coach Jacob's as well but there is a little less stress with 4 and 5 year olds then with 10 and 11 year olds.
I also purchased a wide variety of beads and looking forward to making braclets, necklaces and the such. We missed you all on the Fourth and we are looking forward to the next big party.

Another week

Another week

Not much to show for the new week, but doing alright just the same.
Have to keep looking for jobs and applying this week and hopefully
start I start getting more replies back from the applications I
already sent out. Sometimes I feel like I don't have a clue about how
to find a job and in fact I don't. Hopefully I can find something that
at least acknowledges my degree and counts that as something.
Mathematics, what was I thinking. Oh yeah, I was thinking I was
goingyo go to grad school, well we will see about that.

I really need to start using my new computer more and do some
programming that would at least give me something to be working on and
something to accomplish. If anybody has ideas of things I could
program let me know. Need something that does a specific task? Let me
know and you can get a custom program that meets your needs.

I will keep you all updated and I hope things start to pan out at
least a little so I can be providing a more stable income for my family.

Hot

So I am waiting for my bus and it is nasty hot out here. I am lucky
there is a billboard close to my bus stop that gives good shade or I
would really be roasting. The fourth is coming up this weekend I say
that here to remind myself more than anything I don't know if Jane and
I will be doing anything special or not I imagine not. I guess I will
have to see.

Still looking for jobs and working in the mornings at the job I still
have, but after the 15th not much work to be had with my job so I have
to figure out something soon. Going home right now and going to put
some time into the job search.

My fun toy

I can definitely say that I am enjoying my iPod it is nice to be able
to listen to music and watch videos although I could do those with our
other iPod. The things that are most appealing at this point is the
ability to use the Internet, being able to read PDFs, and the
opportunity to type. The fact that I haven't had to bring my laptop
with me this week has been really nice. It is also cool that I
already have seen so many of the usefull features of my new tool.
After some pratice the typing isn't even too bad. I realize I will
probably be carrying my laptop again before too long, but it has been
nice for this week anyway. Well, brainfreeze so I think I will call
it quits for now.

From ipod

Well I can't post this at the moment since I'm writing from the bus on my iPod, but it is about time I said something again. Jane and I are doing quite well despite my still not finding a new job. I am hoping and praying for a job at the huntsman cancer institute that I interviewed for last week that seems a great fit for me. I should know at the end of this week or the beginning of next week if I am going to get it, meanwhile I am trying to get through things at my current job and keep looking foe others. I also have some special projects I need to get too, but with work and travel and things that has been proving difficult. We got a great new computer and I got a neat iPod touch so I can do a few things on the move without needing to take my laptop all the time. Just need to keep going mostly and try and stabilize life.Have a nice day all.

MONDAY NIGHT RAW!!!!!!

Jacob and i took a little trip to the E-Center to take in some good old fashion scripted sporting event know as the WWE it was televised live on the USA network and i have only see highlights from the .com and i can see us lightly in the crowed in front of the zions bank sign we were 16 rows from the ring and had a blast seeing live was ten times better with the crowed than just seeing it on t.v. we also got the chance to get Triple H's new t shirt be for it is released nation wide the slogan is Latin saying let them hate so long as they fear found us on the video so i updated the blog

Kya made a dress for Youth conference with a little help. I cleaned the living room and got rid of the dust filled pinata. I also took a road trip to the mountain and took a picture of Navajo Lake it was pretty. There is still a little snow under the trees.

Jon Racquet Ball

Here is a video of Jon Playing in the Doubles Gold and Sliver Medal round. They got the Gold. It was fun to watch.

Lake Powell

Joe and I went to Lake Powell with our friends and stayed on their family's houseboat. It was so much fun! I had never done that so it was a new adventure for me! This is us on the house boat. We played in the water, fished, and had a lot of fun! It was a great vacation for the summer! It will probably be are main one for the summer especially with gas prices being so expensive. Some of the other things we have planned for the summer are: Joe going with his friends this weekend to Moab to go rock crawling, the family sleep out this weekend, hunter safety at this end of the month for me, three wedding receptions in July. Then by that time the summer will have flown by and it will be time go to work. For those of you who don't know I am planning on just finding a job other then teaching for now. I am looking into a teachers aid job at South Elementary currently but we will see if anything else opens up or what will be happening by then. I hope everyone is enjoying their summer! Love ya all! The Three Quarter Cow

Jesse Matthews, being a good farmer, loved good animals.  He always wanted to have the best.  He accumulated a small group of registered Holstein dairy cows, which he was very proud of.  He was especially happy when his cows would win at the county fair or some other show, and his cattle won many prizes.

One day he had a young cow that was surplus that he wanted to sell.  The cow buyer that worked the area came by to look at her.  He was satisfied with the cow and the price was fair.  Jess said, “Before you take her I have to tell you something that you cannot see.  She only gives milk from three quarters of he udder.” An infection had caused her to lose the producing ability in one quarter.  This problem could not be seen when the cow was dry and out of production.  The buyer noted that the udder problem made everything different so he left without the cow.  Jesse left to resume his farm work.

A short time latter the buyer knocked on the door and asked for Jess.  Eva, his wife, reported that he had left.  The buyer said, “You know Mrs. Matthews you have the most hones husband I have ever met. He didn’t have to tell me about the cow’s problem, I would have never known.  I’m going to buy that cow because of the respect that I have for your husband.” He wrote out the check and took the cow.

Kira was in the 6th grade Band she did well with the Clarinet. We had to have her stretch her neck to get the picture.

Karina received a Patriot award, she had to memorize lots of stuff, you will have to ask her. She also played the Drums.

May day Program

I took this at a program that Jacob and Melaine were for a City May day program. I also wanted to try the video upload.

Scouts

At the Scout-a-rama Elijah wanted to climb the wall. He didn't get very high but had fun. Sally's booth was mentioned in the paper the next day.
