Alex's Birthday

This was in our local paper. Tonia had told me he was interviewed so had to look today.

Boy enjoys Leap Day birthday

CEDAR CITY – Alex Ashdown was born eight years ago last week, but he has only celebrated two birthdays on the actual day of his birth.

His mother, Tonia, said they weren’t expecting him to come on Feb. 29, as he was a few weeks early, and he hasn’t really understood or enjoyed being born on the day until this year. In common years, they celebrate his birthday on Feb. 28, she added.

Alex is in Mrs. LaDawn Berkey’s second grade class at Fiddlers Canyon Elementary, and the class spotlights each student on his or her birthday. For Alex’s spotlight, he brought his mom, his dad, Jon, and his dog, a miniature schnauzer named Boxie.

Alex said this year he has enjoyed joking around with his family and his class about being born on Leap Day.

“It’s mostly fun,” he said. “I’ve been alive for eight years and I’m 2.”

My sisters say that I’m going to die at a young age,” he added.

Berkey said Alex is a good student and she enjoys having him in her class.

The beach

Last thing we did was go to the beach. I knew Gwen would like the sand. Kya was working on homework. It was cool but fun.

Ratio

This is a monument that was built in Green River. We had to check it out.

Have You Seen This? Massive monument in the middle of Green River

GREEN RIVER -- To all you artists out there, imagine getting an email that went something like this:

I am the lawyer for an incredibly wealthy man who's a big fan of large pieces of art. He'd like to hire someone to create a series of sculptures and transform his 30-acre estate into a public sculpture park. There are no rules, guidelines or budget for the artist to adhere to. He may design and imagine the works however he pleases. Reply if you're interested.

Australian artist Andrew Rogers found an email almost exactly like that in his inbox last June. He was interested and he did reply.

Rogers later got a phone call from the lawyer who told him his client was a blind, 88-year-old retired school teacher who had been wisely purchasing large parcels of land since he was 20 years old and had plenty of money to compensate Rogers.

Rogers agreed to the job that gave him free reign to build what he pleased on a 30-acre plot in Green River, Utah. Rogers got to work and created what he calls Ratio.

The monument sits on the otherwise empty 30-acres and is made up of 53 concrete blocks weighing in at six tons a piece. Ratio is as tall as a four-story building and is topped off with a block plated in 23-carat gold.

So why build a giant concrete monument in an empty area of Green River? The client wanted it there as the first in a series of sculptures that will eventually cover the 30 acres of land. Each piece will draw on mathematical and scientific series.Ratio is arranged according to Rogers' divining of the Fibonacci sequence. Rogers' client, who lives in Seattle, was a high school math teacher and has had a life-long passion for numbers and equations.

Rogers will design another 10 works, and the park is scheduled to be completed in two years.

Gwen went further than I did. So wasn't as afraid of heights as she thought.

All done. After this we went to Moab and ate pizza.

#2 GreenRiver-Arches

We went to San Dune arch next it was in the middle of these rocks. The kids had fun. Would of been better if a bus load of boys hadn't of been there at the same time.

We then went to the double arch. Gwen was tired by then and wanted to stay in the truck. We just kept walking and she made it. She was saying she was afraid of heights here.

Green River

For Presidents Weekend Kya, Gwen, and I went to Green River.

We went to Arches it was cool but when we started to hike it was nice. Lea packed lunch. She cooked for us great meals. We ate out once all you can eat Pizza.

Had to get the hand in hand it was cute.

Tuweep or Toroweap

January 14 Tonia's family and I went on a road trip. When I was in college Dee Ann and I went to the same place to do archeology stuff. Dee Ann said she went lots I only went once that I remember. I remember having to go to the Rangers house to sleep one night. She said we had been there a few days then a big rain storm hit and washed us out.

The trip was fun. Long dirt road to get there. The road in the park was only good for 4 wheel drive and that was at 5 to 10 miles an hr. Also next time need to take camera just had my phone but it worked.

Sewer

On January 4 the city came and dug up the garden. They had been trying to get their camera and snake up through the drain but it seemed to stop in the garden. They had told me about it but didn't know when they were going to do it. It was fun to watch and they had it done in a day. You can see the rock they dug out that was on top of the pipes. They hauld it away. I think I will have lots of rocks to move when the weather warms up.

Things I made

During the month of January I made a trip or two every week to St. George to a sewing class. It was lots of fun. I learned lots about my machines. I can now do towels or anything. I did this one for Gwen they brought me a towel and I played.

These I did for My bathroom. It is really easy when the machine works.

I covered all the chairs for the kitchen. You would stick to them with the duct tape that was falling off.

Eli Derby car

Elijah Fox did a good job. With the help of Sally and Grandma he got 4th out of 14 which was great.

My Room

Here is the final of my room. Love the room and we can all meet in here with out filling it to full. You can see how I fix the curtains in the daytime with the pulls Sally found.

Remodel House

Just a few more things that we did to the house. I put a blue-brown curtains behind what Mother already had and Sally found some magnetic curtain pull-backs that work great.

The furniture in the family room are really nice.

Shower works great in upstairs bathroom. Holden doesn't have to go down stairs anymore.

Stove and Microwave are nice to have.

I love the carpet in the bedroom.
