Eldon Ashdown

Eldon Ashdown
Today the family of Eldon Ashdown mourn the passing of a truly honest man. Eldon was born April 17, 1917, in Cedar City, Utah, to Chris and Margaret Ellen Pendleton Ashdown. He passed away February 17, 2008, at his home in Cedar City, Utah, and was greeted by his parents and siblings: Fern, Sidney, Elizabeth, Leonard and Vermont. Eldon was preceded in death by all of the above plus an infant son, Eldon Ashdown, Jr.
He married his sweetheart Marian Anderson February 28, 1954, in Las Vegas, Nevada.
He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Marian Anderson Ashdown, and the following children: Arlene Stransky (George) of Walnut, CA, Deborah Chelsey (Lon) of Covington, WA, Paul Ashdown (Suzanne), Karen Marchant (Chris) and Jon Ashdown (Tonia) of Cedar City, Utah, Susan Arb (Frank) of Forsyth, MT, Marilyn Prisbrey (Mark) of Logandale, NV, Lenore Carrier (Craig) of Highland, UT; 39 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews and their families.

He was a member of the LDS Church. He aspired to no civic or religious office, spending any available free time with his family, who will sorely miss the time he devoted to them.

Jon's Dad Eldon Ashdown

Eldon did pass away Sunday afternoon. I had the chance to be there up till the very end. I should call it a blessing but I don't feel that way yet. The funeral will be Friday the 22nd. The viewing is 9:30 to 10;30 with the funeral at 11:00 all of this being at the Mourtuary just to let you all know. Jon will be speaking I think that he will do a great talk and I hope that he will be ok.

To Follow Suit...

First I apologize for the card game reference if was just the saying of the moment...

I can probably speak for my whole family when I say we are worn out from our weekend. I got my schedule for work and a few ideas about future options I might be able to get in on. We looked at houses yesterday and chances are we are going to look more seriously into living near Jane's sister Pam in Eagle Mountain. Eagle Mountain is in Utah county about 15 min out of Lehi so I am probably going to be commuting into Lehi to catch the bus up to Salt Lake then run around on buses and the Trax system up there all day. I am going to be working 3 long days and 1 shorter one for a collection of 30 hours a week right now the plan looks like I am going to have Fridays off like I currently do and that will be nice. We are currently accepting contributions to the "Help Gwendolyn get a nice house fund" :) (I figure she is the cutest and would yield the most proceeds). Our savings and things should help us get a decent place currently we are looking at a collection of 3 bedroom 2 bath condos. We probably won't be able to clear a loan until the end of March so that will be awhile that I am going to be staying at relatives up there and coming home on weekends (sounds vaguely familiar).

For this week I am trying to finish up things at work and I also get to sub out at Canyon View for the next three days. It should be easy enough I have two classes Wednesday and then the student teacher gets Thursday and I get to show a video on Friday for whoever is still around. (Looks like boy's and girl's basketball teams made it to the state tournament Awesome stuff)

Well that is where I am at... the family is doing well and we aren't involved in too much yet so I guess not tons of news. Have a good day all.

Also for future reference I added a link to my blog on this blog sometimes I post on one and not the other.

Ben & Mellissa Family Update

I read what Tonia posts for her family and it's nice to know what they're up to. Even though I see her often I don't know everything that is going on with her family. I figure most people know most of what goes on with us because I talk so much!

We are fine. We enjoyed the President's Day holiday. It was four-day weekend for Ben and that was great for our family. He will have all of next week off. We think the end of February is a pretty weird time to have a week off, but we won't complain too much.

I decided to audition for the music program at SUU. I had thought about psychology, but decided, with some convincing from Ben, that music is what I have always wanted to do. They are beginning a new music major this fall. It is a Bachelor of Arts for Arts and Music. It's basically a major for people like me who don't want to teach music or become a professional musician. And I figure if I do need or want to earn a little extra money I can teach lessons. I'm pretty nervous for the audition. Except for the 2004-2005 season I played with the Orchestra of Southern Utah, I haven't played every day since high school. My pinkie finger on my right hand is going to sue me for damages! My audition is March 1st. I would have liked more time but the other days they were auditioning were days I had things I couldn't reschedule. The audition is only supposed to take 10 minutes, but I will be really relieved when those 10 minutes are over. If this doesn't turn out like I plan I am still going to school this fall, but I will take some time to search out through the general ed requirements and see if anything else really catches my attention for a major.

Melanie is doing fine. She is enjoying school and reading. She really hates P.E. Which is really funny because both Ben and I enjoyed phys ed. She has to pass a P.E. test and asked Ben the other day why she did. She's so funny.

Carter is still the funny boy at our house. He loves his video games (a little too much, I think) and is such a sweetheart. We are trying to get better about working on letters and things in the afternoon when Riley is napping. I would like to get him a little better prepared for kindergarten. He doesn't talk about starting kindergarten, but then it's still six months away. Hopefully he will be excited when the time comes.

If Carter is the funny boy at our house then Riley is the naughty boy. He is the boy to test limits for sure! I wish he didn't have such a knack for pushing his mother's buttons! His vocabulary is growing bigger every week. I can understand what he is saying most of the time, but occasionally Carter deciphers for me!

I hope all of you are well. Later!
Love,
Missy
