Panguitch, Utah - Lucile Hunt Proctor, 72, collapsed and died suddenly February 17, 2012 at her daughter's home in St. George. She was born December 24, 1939 in Enterprise, Utah to Ray Von and Augusta Wilcox Hunt - the tenth of 13 children. She grew up on a farm on the Beryl Desert and attended schools in New Castle, the Desert and Enterprise. She graduated from Enterprise High School in 1957, a year early because her smartness had gotten her moved ahead a grade. She graduated from Dixie College in 1959, where she was a popular and actively involved student, then went on to graduate from BYU.
After teaching Home Economics at Juab High School for a couple of years, she was an
International Farm Youth Exchange student to Nepal for 6 months - a grand adventure that she loved to recall and describe. After Nepal, she became a Home Ec teacher at Panguitch High School where she met Sheldon Proctor. They were married November 27, 1964, in Enterprise, and sealed in the St. George Temple April 11, 1987. For the rest of her life, Panguitch was Lucile's much-loved hometown where she was active in the schools, the community and the LDS church. She was an efficient and dedicated wife and mother, and supported her husband and daughters in all their many activities. She went the extra mile in making 4-H a vital part of her daughters' lives, as it had been for her in her youth.
Lucile was Garfield County Home Extension agent for many years and loved the job, and the many friends she made - and she was excited at the opportunities the job provided for travel and exploration around the country.
She loved the trips she and Sheldon took with their friends to the Denver Stock Shows - and their annual deer-hunt family camping socials.
Lucile was a faithful and loving caregiver to Sheldon for many years as he suffered the
debilitating aftereffects of cancer, and was grieved at the loss of him in 2005. In the new life she forged for herself, she often boarded the plane for extended visits with Stacia's family in Boise, and Patrice's in Texas, and when she began using oxygen a few years ago, she bought a portable machine so she could keep traveling. When she wasn't with one of the other girls she spent her winters with Roshell's family in St. George, and especially enjoyed and appreciated her lovely room, and the loving care they gave her. She returned each summer to the beloved home she and Sheldon built in Panguitch.
Being in St. George put her near her three sisters with whom she spent many happy hours - going to lunch, playing games, and taking outings to such places as Fredonia, Barkley, Blanding and Hawaii. She and the sisters often played Rook with their brother Dale in a Hurricane care center.
Lucile was an exceptional seamstress and knitter, and was, in fact, exceptionally capable of doing anything she set her mind to - woodworking, upholstering, sheet-rocking, cooking, researching. She freely shared her talents with her family and friends. She adored her grandchildren, and found countless ways to bless their lives - $2 bills, commemorative quarters, flash lights, sleeping bags, walkie-talkies, monogrammed towels etc, etc. In 2009 she was thrilled to take the entire family on a Cruise of the Hawaiian Islands.
Lucile is survived by her three daughters, Patrice and Lee Hardin, Wimberley Texas, Roshell and Ryan Brinkerhoff, St. George, UT, Stacia and Derek Dennis, Boise ID, grandchildren, Brantley, Shelsey, Keaton, Shaylea, Hunter, Hayden and Abbie. Brothers,
Stanley and Joyce, Magna UT, Russel, Mesa AZ, Clyde and Delora, New Harmony, UT, Dale, Hurricane, UT, Allen and Leonie, Blanding, UT. Sisters, Mary Ann and Sid Atkin, St. George, Evaline and Marvin Bracken, Beryl, UT. sisters-in-law, Joy Hunt, Alura Nash, Jeanne Hunt and LaRae Proctor.
She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, brothers David, Clinton, Tommy, Richard, and sister, Elsa.
Funeral services will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Monday, February 20, 2012 at the Panguitch LDS 2nd Ward Chapel, 200 North 400 East, Panguitch, Utah. A visitation will be held Monday, prior to services, from 10:00 a.m. to 11:45 a.m. at the Chapel. Interment will be at the Panguitch City Cemetery. Just a few more things that we did to the house. I put a blue-brown curtains behind what Mother already had and Sally found some magnetic curtain pull-backs that work great.
